edits, talkinamyself

In the Subaru, not truck, to open. And truck is 1985 GMC Sierra Classic.

Tom';s arrival at Hunters's coincides wityh the release of Foglost, NOT (per John) when it becomes a bestseller. That's for DOC 2.

Scene 17, Barbara and Brian, is way too long (but easier to cut than add).

And Daisy knows about Tom re Hunter, NOT knowledge she's kept from Wanda.

scene 42 and 43

scene 41

42. EXT. SMALL FIREPIT - NIGHT

CRACKLING FIRE burning twigs and small sections of branches, encircled by rocks. RIVER WHISPER interrupted by occasional CATTLE LOWING.

TOM (O.S.) Remember the way back?

CAMERA TILT UP to Tom across the fire, eyes shaded by the brim of the weathered cowboy hat. Leather gloves, his hair is on his shoulders, a beard coming in. White bandana around his neck. Dirty denim shirt. He exhales steam.

CAMERA TILT UP AND DOWN.

He looks up to stare us in the eye, his own reflect the fire.

TOM: You afraid?

CAMERA PAN LEFT AND RIGHT.

TOM: Tricky crossin', wadn't it?

CAMERA TILT UP AND DOWN.

TOM: Ya earned yer spurs.

Nearby HORSE SNORT.

Tom turns his gaze upward, we follow to the starry sky and crescent moon gradually replaced by falling snow becoming fat and fatter flakes, black of night turning grey.

We return to the fire extinguished by snow. Tom is gone, the sunrise on nearby mountains lights the river coursing through gravel bed, and Tom's boot prints and horse's hoofmarks in the snow, leading to the river. FAINT LOWING of the last few BEEF CATTLE following the herd out of view around a small hill on the other side of the river.

TOM (O.S. LOUDISH): Hunter.

43. INT. HUNTER'S BEDROOM - SUNRISE

Describe.

He's in bed, navy blue silk pajamas, his eyes suddenly open, he lingers a moment, sits up, activates and speaks into the phone (on nightstand).

HUNTER: Tom, campfire, cattle river crossing, starry skies replaced by snow extinguishing fire. Sunrise on mountains reveal river through gravel bars. Last of the herd out of view.

He sits on edge of bed, ponders, stands, slips into slippers, leaves into hall.

INT. CHLOE'S ROOM - MOMENT LATER

Describe. Chloe in bed asleep.

Hunter passes by in hallway, stops to look in at Chloe, continues out of view.

INT. HUNTER'S KITCHEN - MOMENT LATER

Clock on stove at 6:26. Hunter enters, commences coffee prep, watches through window over sink at a ROADRUNNER ALIGHT on the stone wall. Coffee in mug in hand, he takes steps toward the dining room, stops, returns to hall, sips, looks down the hallway.

INT. HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

At the end, near the open door to the guest room, the object of Hunter's attention, made clear when he approaches.

HUNTER (LOW): Tom.

He arrives in doorway looks in.

INT. GUEST ROOM

Hunter in doorway, looks at Tom in bed, eyes closed, hands together over his chest. His sleeveless tee reveals the FIRST CAVALRY PATCH TATTOO on his right shoulder. Hunter stares, finally enters, goes to bed, stands over Tom.

HUNTER: Tom.

He sits on edge of bed, puts finger to Tom's mouth, then nose, to check for breathing. Checks Tom's wrist to check for pulse. He stares at Tom, finally rises, leaves into hall.

INT. CHLOE'S ROOM - MOMENT LATER

Chloe asleep, Hunter arrives in doorway, lingers, finally enters, sits on edge of bed Chloe is turned to. He strokes her hair, a tear runs down his check. Chloe finally opens her eyes, looks at Hunter, does the math, sits up, another tear down Hunter's cheek. Chloe shakes her head.

CHLOE: No. No.

She places her head on Hunter's chest, he wraps her in his arms, she begins to sob.

CHLOE: It's not fair.
